About Me

Aaron, 33, discovered pipemaking in 2022 after learning of its decline on the Heritage Crafts Association’s Red List of Endangered Crafts. Determined to explore the craft further, he reached out to Broseley Pipe Works, Nantgarw China Clay Works and Museum—once the largest clay pipe manufacturer in Wales (1833–1920)—and skilled clay pipe maker Oliver Meeson.

In 2023, Aaron travelled from South Wales to Broseley to visit the historic pipe works. During his visit, he toured the facility before meeting resident pipemaker Oliver Meeson, who gave him the opportunity to try his hand at crafting a clay pipe—an experience that left a lasting impression. He still keeps that first pipe today.

Since then, Aaron has been steadily researching the craft and refining the traditional skills required for clay pipe making. He is a member of the Society for Clay Pipe Research and is particularly interested in the history of the craft, tracing its origins from 1558 through to its decline in the 20th century.

As a living historian and reenactor, Aaron aims to specialise in producing high-quality reproduction clay pipes for the reenactment and living history communities, as well as for TV productions. Each pipe is handcrafted in South Wales and available to order or purchase from selected outlets.
